The Beginning of Real Secrets To Success
The future doesn’t knock. It walks past you—and you have to be bold enough to follow. In Matthew 4:17-19, Jesus disrupts the routine lives of fishermen with a simple, yet life-altering invitation: “Follow me.” That phrase is the birthplace of transformation. This is where real success begins—not with our plans, but with a radical shift into God’s preferred path for us.
You Can’t Have Progress Without Change
Here’s the truth most people avoid: You can’t want the success of progress without enduring the discomfort of change. The transcript makes it clear—many of us say we want more, but fight the very process that would bring it. Why? Because change is rude. It doesn’t ask permission. It doesn’t wait until you’re ready. It shows up in the middle of your routine and demands a response.
Jesus didn’t ask Peter and Andrew if they were comfortable. He didn’t even wait for them to weigh their options. He said, “Follow me,” and kept walking. That’s how purpose works—it’s moving, and you either go with it or get left behind.
The Three Reasons We Resist Change
- Fear of the Unknown – We don’t know what’s on the other side, so we stay in what we hate because at least it’s familiar.
- Perceived Loss of Control – We like feeling in charge, even if the results are mediocre.
- Emotional Attachment to Routine – We’ve become loyal to dysfunction simply because it’s what we know.

When Identity Gets in the Way of Success
Jesus challenged how they saw themselves. Fishermen. That’s all they’d ever been. But God saw more. Their future, their success, required a new identity—fishers of men. And here’s the catch: The future always challenges your identity. It will never let you stay small.
What labels have you accepted that God never gave you? What names have people called you based on your consistent behavior instead of your God-given calling? If your routine is rooted in fear, comfort, or approval, you’re already behind. Because the future doesn’t wait.
Signs You’re Missing the Move
- You keep saying “next time,” but time keeps moving.
- You see others thriving in the very thing you once dreamed of.
- You’ve prayed for favor, but ran from the fight it came with.
Every time we say no to God’s voice, we risk watching someone else live out what was meant for us. Oof. Let that sit.
A Life That Only Touches You Isn’t Enough
Peter and Andrew were fishing for survival. Jesus was calling them to fish for purpose. Real success isn’t measured by what you catch for yourself, but how your obedience impacts others. If your life only blesses you, it’s not aligned with God’s plan.
Don’t settle for daily provision when God is calling you to generational impact.
The Invitation Still Stands
Jesus said, “Follow me.” That was the invitation then—and it’s the same today. Will you drop your net? Will you leave the familiar? Or will you keep casting into the dark, hoping this time your efforts pull up real success?
The future is calling.
Will you answer?
